The city's Police Services Board is not ready to make a decision on the fate of the School Resource Officer program.
Following a marathon meeting, the board voted to delay a decision and order a review of the program which places uniformed officers inside some Toronto schools.
There was heated debate and several disruptions, as the board discussed the issue.
Some groups and individuals, including Black Lives Matter, have been calling for an end to the program, claiming it discriminates against black students.
There were more than 70 people signed up to speak at the meeting, which became so crowded that some people were left outside.
They began chanting, "let us in." The meeting was halted for a short time before discussions resumed.
