An official with Toronto Water says a section of Yonge St will remain closed through the evening rush following an early-morning watermain break.
The break sent water gushing up through a manhole and down Yonge just south of King St at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday.
Southbound lanes of Yonge are closed between King and Wellington St W. Just before 1 p.m. the closure was anticipated to last another eight to 12 hours.
Officials say the process of locating the break in infrastructure that dates back to 1879 and stopping the flow of water was a frustrating one.

The closure is needed to make repairs to the watermain.
