Toronto Police are on the lookout for at least six suspects after shots were fired inside Yorkdale Shopping Centre Thursday afternoon.
Investigators say there was some sort of altercation between two groups of men: "There were at least three on each side."
Toronto Police Superintendent Rob Johnson spoke to the media after the incident.
"There was at least two gunshots that I can advise of right now. There were a group of males that were involved. We're still looking at video."
The shooting happened at the southeast corner of the mall, close to the security office, near the Starbucks.
Police confirm no injuries reported as a result of gunfire, but two people suffered minor injuries as they tried to exit the mall.
Some frantic shoppers at the mall first called into NEWSTALK 1010 shortly before 3 p.m. to report they had heard possible gunshots inside the mall and that shoppers were being asked to evacuate the area.
An employee at the mall told our media partner CP24 she heard gunshots.
"We heard the gunshots and that's when we knew it's serious we need to get out of here."
A mother and daughter were inside a dessert shop in the mall when the shooting broke out.
"There was a big bang. We looked over. We assumed it may have been a balloon or something. We looked over and we just saw a bunch of panic and people running and we heard a second shot, then we had to find cover."
Canada's 4th largest retail mall was closed for several hours for the investigation. Late Thursday, Yorkdale Shopping Centre's website indicated "regular hours will resume on Friday, August 31st, at 10 a.m."
Police also tweeted: "Customers/employees (can) call Yorkdale Shopping Centre security (at) 416-256-5097 to make arrangements to retrieve personal property if items (left) behind when evacuating during firearm discharge incident."
Toronto Mayor John Tory weighed in on the latest shooting in his city:
"Whether it is Yorkdale Mall or anywhere else in Toronto, people should not have to worry about gun violence breaking out - at any time.
There are too many guns available to criminals in the city and I am determined to end that with the help of our police and our government partners.
I am relieved that there are no reports of injuries from gunfire and I hope that remains true.
I want to thank Toronto Police and other first responders for quickly responding to this incident.
I have been briefed by Acting Chief Shawna Coxon on the ongoing police response in the area and am continuing to follow the situation.
I urge anyone with information about this shooting to contact Toronto Police or Crime Stoppers."
Witnesses are being asked to call 416-808-3200.
