The average hydro bill in Ontario will jump almost $10 per month in 2022, to an average bill of almost $195 per month by 2027.
Those numbers are found within confidential Cabinet documents from the Liberal government that were obtained by the Progressive-Conservatives.
The Opposition says the leak reveals how a 25 percent hydro rate reduction promised by the Liberals in the latest provincial budget will eventually make a comeback on consumers' bills.
The allegation from the Progressive-Conservatives is that the rate cut is an election ploy by the Liberal government that would appease public outcry over climbing electricity rates as Ontario gears up for a provincial election in 2018.
It is expected that about a decade of significant hydro rate increases would be called for.
It would mean increases of roughly $10 per month for the average home.
Monthly bills would level off at about $195.
Right now, the average hydro consumer pays about $158 for power and that is expected to drop to about $123 when all of the Liberals' rebates have been applied.
Increase would be kept to about 2 percent each year, until 2021.
Cabinet documents suggest the short-term relief will mean long-term pain to pay for operating Ontario's hydro system.
