Mayor John Tory says he will push for a property tax increase next year that is at or below inflation.
He invited media to a house near Jane & Weston to demonstrate that the tax is already a heavy enough burden on home owners.
On Tuesday, the budget committee will start deliberations on how to pay for city services and capital projects in 2017.
Tory says staff will reveal there is a budget shortfall that council will have to deal with. While he says it's up to the budget committee to make a recommendation on how to fill the hole, he would support a hotel tax as one example.
The mayor used his visit to the Weston neighbourhood to continue to promote his support of road tolls to pay for transit expansion. He says property taxes should only be used to pay for day-to-day services like police and libraries, not large capital projects.
