WestJet's new no-frills, lower-fare airline Swoop will take off by the end of June 2018.
The Calgary-based company also announced Wednesday that it will start selling flights early in the new year although it is not clear what destinations Swoop will fly to.
With Swoop, passengers will pay only for their seats. Everything else--checked luggage, in-flight meals and movies, even carry-on bags will be a paid for add-on.
WestJet's CEO tells the Globe and Mail their aim is to offer rates 40% below standard carriers. That's in line with what ultra low-cost carriers in the US offer.
WestJet plans to launch with six jets and scale up to 10 in 2019.
