The season of cursing behind the wheel of your going-nowhere-fast car is here: road construction season.
On Wednesday the city of Toronto unveiled the list of 200 projects that will see roads across the city ripped up to replace ancient watermains, lay new streetcar tracks or for resurfacing.
60 of those projects are considered to be major.
Councillor and chair of Toronto's Public Works and Infrastructure committee Jaye Robinson says the city will do what it can to keep traffic moving and to deal with concerns about noise.
But crews are up against the time crunch of poor Canadian winter weather and a $4.5 billion road and water infrastructure backlog.
"What we try to do is honour the fact that most people head to bed around 11 o'clock and so that's when the jackhammers will stop," Robinson told reporters. "But there will be jackhammering throughout the day. And we are looking at extended hours and we are looking at, in some cases, 24-hour work."
Robinson says the city continues to play catchup from work that was delayed for the Pan Am Games in the summer of 2015.
While in summers past road projects were more concentrated in the city core, Robinson says this year you will see them across the city with many in the suburbs.
Among this year's major projects:
-Replacing the TTC track and concrete at the Gerrard St E and Parliament St intersection
-Six Points Reconfiguration in the area of Bloor St W/Dundas St W/Kipling Ave
-Harbour Street streetscape and multi-use trail construction until July
-Resurfacing Eglinton Ave W between Islington and Jane St (resuming from 2017)
-Watermain replacement and road resurfacing on Jarvis St from Dundas St E to Queen St E
-Watermain replacement and road resurfacing on Adelaide St E from Jarvis St to Parliament St
-TTC track replacement at the intersection of Dundas St E and Broadview Ave and on Dundas St E from Broadview Ave to Gerrard St E (8 weeks)
-Watermain replacement and road resurfacing on Kipling Ave from Albion Rd to Belfield Rd
-Watermain structural relining on Kennedy Road from Ellesmere Rd to Lawrence Ave E
-Road resurfacing on Pharmacy Ave from Sheppard Ave to Finch Ave and from Lawrence Ave to the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks north of Lawrence Ave
-Road resurfacing on Martin Grove Rd from Lavington Dr to Eglinton Ave W
-Watermain replacement and road resurfacing on Dundas St W from Bay St to Spadina Ave

There will also be a major rebuild of the Gardiner Expressway between Jarvis St and Cherry St beginning late this fall.
Michael D'Andrea, Chief Engineer and Executive Director of Engineering and Construction Services for Toronto says the plan is still in the works, but the intention is to keep two eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes open during construction.
The rebuild of the Gardiner's deck and girders is expected to happen mostly overnight and to stretch into 2020.
D'Andrea says pre-engineering work on the planned makeover of the eastern-most leg of the Gardiner from Cherry to the Don Valley Parkway will also happen this year.
