Toronto police have charged a 36-year-old woman with attempted murder in the stabbing of her newborn child.
Officers were called to a home in the city's North York neighbourhood on Wednesday, where they say they found both the woman and her child with stab wounds.
The child, who is less than a month hold, is still in hospital and listed in critical but stable condition.
Originally, police had told reporters that this appeared to be a mental health issue. Now, they tell NEWSTALK 1010, that there is enough evidence to lay a charge.
They say the child's mother appeared before a magistrate on Thursday and was remanded in custody ahead of her next court appearance.
Police are not releasing further details in an effort to protect the victim's identity.
