At five-years-old, she'd already lived a more trying life than people ten times her age.
A little girl who'd survived cancer at the age of three, was struck and pinned by a runaway vehicle in the parking lot of a North York school almost two years ago.
The girl was being picked up by her dad, from St. Raphael Catholic School, in January of 2018. Suddenly, as the two were nearing their own vehcile, an SUV rolled towards them, pinning them both.
The little girl later died in hospital.
The SUV didn't have a driver behind the wheel. As a matter of fact, there wasn't anyone in the vehicle when it rolled away.
On Tuesday, the woman who was supposed to be there was found guilty of failing to take precaution of a vehicle in motion, and was fined $100.
The judge had said the owner's manual of the SUV, calls for the parking brake to be used when the vehicle is stopped. In this case, it wasn't.
The crown told the court, this appears to be a parking offence, that went horribly wrong.
