The fire was doused quickly, but the damage inside a home in Brampton had already been done.
The body of a woman was found on the first floor of the home, in the Fireside Drive and Navy Crescent area of the city, after fire crews responded
to a fire call just after 3 p.m. Monday afternoon.
According to Brampton Fire Chief Bill Boyes, who spoke to our media partner CP24, crews quickly moved in upon arrival.
"Were able to extinguish the fire very quickly and efficiently, at the same time found an adult female deceased. it was a fire on the first floor."
A chaplain supporting the family said the woman was in her 60s and that she was in Canada visiting family on a trip from India.
She said the family is “broken” by the sudden death.
Cbhief Boyes added his department, along with the Ontario Fire Marshal's office and Peel Police are all investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire and death.
"They're trying to determine the origin, cause and circumstance of this fire to really determine exactly what happened here."
