A guilty plea from a 28-year-old woman in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that happened last fall.
Erin Wright was in court in Toronto today, and pleaded guilty to one count of impaired driving causing death. The other three charges she was facing, were dropped.
It was last October 4th, that a 63-year-old woman, who was visiting from New Brunswick, was struck and killed while standing on the sidewalk near York Mills and Don Mills.
Wright took off from the scene, and in an agreed statement of fact, she says she slept in her Nissan Rogue that night. When she woke up, she called a friend and told them she thought she hit a pole.
She's been sentenced to five years in prison, and has been banned from driving for four years after her release.
The victim's daughters spoke with reporters outside of the court, and suggested that five years was not long enough.
"Five years seems too short for that, but we miss our mom and we're going to miss her forever." says Kaitlin Crawford.
Sarah Crawford echoed her sister's sentiments.
"Five years is a short amount of time compared to a lifetime without our mother and we feel that Canadian law sentencing for impaired driving doesn’t reflect the severity of our loss."
