Toronto Police say an elderly woman was fatally struck multiple times by two different vehicles in Scarborough Wednesday afternoon, with both drivers leaving the scene.
It happened around 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of Midland Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East.
Traffic Sgt. Brett Moore said it's believed a fuel truck was the first to hit the woman, believed to be in her 70s.
"Essentially there was a second strike from the rear wheels that fatally killed her we believe," he said.
But then Moore said a second vehicle, possibly a white Honda Civic, also hit her and carried her down the street.
"Driver got out of the vehicle, obviously saw what happened, got back in the vehicle and took off," he said. "A very gruesome scene.
Police found the truck, but the car driver still has not.
Moore said it's believed to be the 19th pedestrian killed by a vehicle this year.
Both vehicles were traveling east on Sheppard, turning south on Midland.
"The social contract is that you stick around, you don't take off," Moore said. "We will not stop until this is solved."
