York Regional Police are looking to prepare local businesses and community groups for active attack situations with the launch of a new project, this week.
"Run, Hide, Defend" is aimed at encouraging employers to prepare workers for the best chance of survival in the case of an attack.
Police say that while schools do lockdown drills on a regular basis, it's not something businesses get their employees thinking about - and that's something this program hopes to change.
"Our primary objective is to encourage the safety of our community," Constable Laura Nicolle told NEWSTALK1010, saying they will release a video which details possible scenarios, and goes over how employees can barricade themselves or use items to protect themselves.
"As far as I know, we're the first in Ontario that has launched something like this," she said. "It's very, very important to be prepared for any type of incident."
"Run, Hide, Defend" comes one week after the mass van attack in Toronto's Yonge and Finch neighbourhood that left 10 people dead and 16 injured.
