York Rgional police are taking to transit to catch distracted drivers.
An officer will ride a bus and look for drivers using their cellphones or other devices. When they spot someone they radio their partner who is driving behind the bus. That officer gets the description of the car, tracks them down and issues the ticket.
Police say "as long as the officer on the bus or the officer in the car witnesses as a visual operation, that's all that's required in court."
And it has turned out to be pretty effective, in one day seven drivers were stopped in just twenty minutes.
A distracted driving ticket will cost you $495 dollars.
