The York District school board has officially apologized and settled with a parent that filed three separate human rights complaints.
Charline Grant went after the board after, first, she alleged her son was called "intimidating" and "angry" by teachers because of his race, and then a trustee called her a racial slur after a board meeting.
The trustee, Nancy Elgie, later resigned and the director of education was dismissed.
The board has now settled with Grant, offering an apology and promising a dozen steps to fight racism.
The steps include creating a Human Rights Office and mandatory anti-racism training for all staff.
"To get justice feels great," Grant tells our sister station CP24. She says she wanted an apology all along.
