We're only 14 school days into the school year, and already some students have had a day off.
It was a PA day at schools with the York Region District School Board, and that meant kids stayed home on Monday.
Teachers though, still had to go in to work.
"This is a day dedicated to training of staff, with regards to health and safety." says superintendent of education, Clayton LaTouche.
As for why they couldn't have done it at the end of summer, or a day before school starts, he says only some years does that work. This year wasn't one of them.
"Our school year calendars are confirmed by the ministry, and before we can book PA days, we have to have ministry approval."
LaTouche says it's important to have one this early, since it's imperative that everyone is on the same page when it comes to health and safety.
