A York Regional Police officer has been convicted of sexual assault.
Constable Young Min Von Seefried was charged in June of 2015, in connection with an incident the previous January.
YRP says they received a complaint, alleged to have happened during a traffic stop in Richmond Hill, which they reported to the Special Investigations Unit.
In a written statement, YRP Chief Eric Jolliffe said, "It is extremely disappointing to have one of our officers charged and convicted criminally. However, it is by no means a reflection on the hard-working men and women of York Regional Police, who are professional, dedicated and do their jobs every day with integrity and respect."
The statement goes on to say, "York Regional Police will not tolerate any behaviour that victimizes anyone in our community."
YRP says Constable Von Seefried is 33 years old and has been employed with the service since 2006. He's been suspended with pay since the charge was laid and will continue to be suspended until all court proceedings are complete.
The service says there is also a Police Services Act investigation underway.
